Macabre and Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench coming for two concerts in Poland

Uncompromising and absolutely vulgar. Noise, macabre and stench. The proponents of old school extreme are cordially invited to the co-headlining concerts of Macabre and Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench, with support from Las Trumien. July 5 in Hype Park in Kraków, and the next day in Hydrozagadka in Warsaw.

Where did we learn all that we know about monsters in human flesh before the age of true crime docs flooding video streaming platforms, of ever denser books about serial killers being published and everlonger podcasts – each a copycat of the other – being released? From Macabre songs, well of course!

Macabre has been causing uproar for over 40 years, with no line-up changes and unwavering fidelity to their originating formula of murder metal – a unique blend of proto-death metal, thrash, punk, grind, and… folksongs. Nefarious, Corporate Death, and Dennis the Menace ain’t racing anybody – they released six full-length albums and a handful of EPs throughout the years – and don’t need to prove anything to anyone. They’ve committed serial and lawless murder of good test and pleasant ambience time and time, and that’s exactly why they’ve earned the status of living legends.

What’s this beautiful stench? Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench are coming from Vienna to remind us why they ruled gore death metal at the beginning of the 90s and enjoyed the well-deserved reputation as one of the most extreme bands in Europe. Pungent Stench are the authors of such cult albums as For God Your Soul… For Me Your Flesh and Been Caught Buttering. Today, the legacy of the band is tended after by its nursling, Martin Schirenc, a guitarist and vocalist, with Jacek Perkowski at his side. Actually, was tended after… Recently, Schirenc announced that 2026 will mark the end of this project and it is with these two concerts that he will bid adieu to the Polish audience. Viva La Muerte!

Poles, however, are not coming to the party empty-handed. Before Macabre and Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench even take the stage, the Silesian band Las Trumien will already have the audience buried. They showcased the full scope of their sludge/doom capabilities on their 2024 album Budowniczowie grozy. One only has to combine the titles of two songs from this record to describe the nature of the encounter with their sound – a long road through hell to feel better.
